Report on the World Blood Donor Day 2010 celebration in Bhutan

Theme: “New Blood for the WorldActivity:

For the fifth successive year, Bhutan celebrated the “World Blood Donor Day” on June 14th 2010.

Objectives:

The key messages emphasized this year’s theme as announced by World Health Organization (WHO)

Raising awareness of the key role played by young people in voluntary blood donor program

Participation by the youth as blood donors for a sustainable national blood supply

Promotion of healthy life styles choices by the young, regular blood donors

Highlighting the contribution of the voluntary unpaid blood donors towards public health.

Under the initiatives and directives of the Department of Medical Services, Ministry of Health, and co-ordinated by the Blood Safety program and National Blood Bank, Thimphu, a series of events including educational and motivational activities were planned and carried out in Thimphu and at Paro.

Thursday, May 13, 2010: On Saturday (15.05.2010) at 8.30 AM there will be a virtual CME between JDWNRH and SGPGIMS, Lucknow on the topic “Evaluation of Red Blood Cells Utilization in Elective Surgeries”. The Department of Transfusion Medicine, SGPGIMS will carry out the presentation.

Meanwhile, today nine participants including Psychiatrist and Psychiatric Nurse attended the CME session with the PGIMER, Chandighar. The topic was “Psychotherapy” and Dr. P. Kulhara, Professor and Head, Department of Psychiatry was the resource person.
